Redwing Farm, owned by Judy and Roy Werner, is located in the rural
Southern Illinois town of Waterloo-situated across the Mississippi
river from St. Louis, Mo. Owned by the Werner family for 60 years,
the 440 acre farm was transformed from a crop farm to an American
Saddlebred breeding farm in the 1980s. Standing at that time the now
deceased stallion Radiant Sultan-the farm evolved from a training/breeding
facility into what it is today-a full service breeding farm offering
year round care for broodmares and their offspring-with Designed heading
the farm's breeding program.
Judy and Roy Werner purchased their first broodmare in 1976-which
was a natural extension to Judy Werner's lifelong association with
the American Saddlebred. Hilda and Alvin Ruxer, Ruxer Farms, Jasper,
Indiana became close friends and an influence on the Redwing Farm
breeding program. It was from Ruxer's that Redwing Farm purchased
the now deceased stallion Radiant Sultan and Designed's dam Sultan's
Dianna. The Ruxer friendship and the mentoring by Ruxer Farm's stallion
manager at the time, Bill Caldwell, set the wheels in motion for Redwing
Farm to become an established breeding farm known for its exceptional
livestock and its excellent care of the animals trusted to their care.
Believing that one must give back to an industry that has given so
much to her-Judy Werner was ASHA President 1980-1989; is a Director
of the St. Louis National Charity Horse Show (founding and current
Board of Directors) and the United States Equestrian Federation,
where she is currently an Officer and the Chairman of several committees.
Redwing Farm offers excellent full or breeding season mare care.
We specialize in problem mares requiring individual care and also
show mares who need to be let down for breeding purposes. All foaling
is monitored and we will care for a mare's offspring until it is time
for it to go into training. We accept and care for all breeds. Mares
do not have to be booked to the farm's stallion Designed-we will arrange
shipped semen from the stallion of your choice.
